The Route Through The Americas:

Here is my route. It starts in California near San Francisco and ends 14 countries later in Ushuaia, Argentina, the most southern town in the world. To see more detail for any country, click on the links above. This route is tentative, and may change. In all, though, it will probably take 12,000 to 15,000 miles of pedaling. I plan to leave in early November of 2005 and finish at the end of 2006.

This route will take me south along the California coast and along Mexico's Baja penisula. After a ferry ride to mainland Mexico, I will continue across central Mexico and into the countries of Central America.

I am planning to fly from Panama City, Panama, to Caracas, Venezuela to avoid Colombia, as Colombia may not be safe for American bike tourists. From Venezuela, I will bike through the Amazon rainforest to the Brazilian city of Manaus. From Manaus, a boat will take me up the Amazon River to the Peruvian town of Yurimaguas (there are no roads from Brazil to Peru).

From Peru, I plan to follow the spine of the Andes south, traversing many mountain passes on my way through Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, and Chile, finally ending at the town of Ushuaia in Patagonia's Tierra del Fuego.
